Timothy Kern Memorial Scholarship

Timothy John Kern attended Chestertown Middle School and graduated from Kent County High School in 2002. As his friends will attest, Tim was one of those rare individuals who could make you forget any trouble that you had; he seemed to know what to say and do to make every minute with him fun and memorable. You only had to meet Tim once to feel as if you had known him forever.

As a four year letterman, Tim played with 10 varsity teams. This commitment to sports and the visible passion with which he played was inspiring to others around him. Tim was a player that pushed his limits. He refused to say no to any workout, team experience, or completing the game. “Never give up” would be his attitude from sport to sport. The challenge of competition as well as the loyalty to teammates helped make Tim a valued friend.

A tragic accident on August 28, 2006 took Tim’s life at the age of 23. This scholarship was established by friends and family whose lives were changed forever because of the life of Timothy Kern. A $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a recipient annually who embodies the love for sports, passionate dedication, as well as fun and laughter that was Tim.

The scholarship is to be used to defray college costs (tuition, books, and room/board) in the student’s freshman year. The scholarship is not renewable, and is awarded annually.
